Leadership Mississippi Launches 2012 Program Year in Jackson

Jackson10The Leadership Mississippi Class of 2012 held its opening session January 25-27 in Jackson, receiving a major dose of politics. The class is made up of 49 of Mississippi’s top leaders, who will spend the upcoming year learning and traveling to all regions of Mississippi in order to get a better understanding of issues important in moving Mississippi forward.

During the opening session, the class toured the Mississippi Children’s Museum and the Old Capitol Museum. In addition to enjoying an opportunity to meet and get to know fellow classmates, alumni of Leadership Mississippi also took part in the session, serving on panels and attending events.

The three-day session included a look at Leadership Mississippi Alumni in Politics, a tour of the State Capitol, and a briefing on the legislative process. While at the Capitol, the class attended a session of the House of Representatives and were welcomed by Leadership Mississippi alumnus and House Speaker Pro Tem Greg Snowden of Meridian. Leadership Mississippi alumnus Judge Jimmy Maxwell of Mississippi Court of Appeals provided an overview of the legal system in Mississippi and a tour of the Mississippi Supreme Court Building.

The class will hold its second session March 8-9 in Meridian.
