elected 2010 - 2011 Chair. Tommy Dulaney of Structural Steel Services in

Governor Haley Barbour
announced the creation of the Mississippi Energy Policy Institute
Wednesday, June 10, to promote policies supporting long-term economic
growth for the state through reliable and affordable energy.
An
initiative of Momentum Mississippi, the Mississippi Energy Policy
Institute will promote a long-term coherent strategy for developing
energy resources in the State of Mississippi. Leaders from throughout
Mississippi are participating in the public-private partnership.

Issues Are Focus Of New Energy Coalition
A coalition to promote sound
energy policy was announced last week. Energy, business, community and academic
leaders have formed Advance Mississippi to identify and promote energy policies
that will benefit and advance Mississippi’s economy. Glenn McCullough Jr., the former
Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority who also served as the Mayor of
Tupelo, is the Advance Mississippi Chairman.

Salute to Mississippi Scholars Sept. 11 11,000 Students have
Graduated as Mississippi Scholars
The Public Education Forum is sponsoring the
first-ever “Salute to Mississippi Scholars” luncheon in Jackson, honoring
those who have served their community by getting involved and putting
education first. The event will include a panel discussion and lunch and
will be held from 11 a.m. -1:30 p.m. at the Jackson Marriott. The goal of the event is two-fold: 1) To
celebrate the success of Mississippi Scholars, its volunteers, schools
districts, businesses and education leaders; and 2) Energize, inform, connect
and inspire educators and business volunteers across the state to get involved
in Mississippi Scholars.

program -- have been elected mayors in Mississippi’s June 2 general election. Winning elections
were Arthur Evans (’07) - Crystal Springs; George Schloegel (’75) - Gulfport; Connie Moran (’97) -Ocean Springs; and Jack

Bounds new IHL Commissioner
Dr. Dan Jones has been named Chancellor of the University
of Mississippi. Jones, current vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine at the University
of Mississippi Medical Center, meet with various campus groups on Monday, June 15, before being formally selected by
the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
