Entergy Jackson Campus Expands
With Opening of Corporate Data Center
Complex represents nearly $100-million
investment in Mississippi, over 500 jobs
Representatives of Entergy Mississippi, Inc. and
area economic development officials cut the ribbon May 5 on Entergy’s newest
addition to its Operations Complex on the City of Jackson’s Echelon Parkway--a
state-of-the-art data center.
The center, one of two primary data centers for
the entire four-state Entergy system, joins Entergy’s new transmission
headquarters that opened in December, the company’s nuclear headquarters and
Entergy’s Power House.
“The opening of this $50-million dollar-plus,
cutting-edge facility represents the most recent major investment in the Entergy
Campus,” said Haley Fisackerly, president and chief executive officer of Entergy
Mississippi, Inc. “It indicates a total investment that nears $100 million
dollars in the four-building campus that houses more than 500 high-paying,
permanent jobs in our capital city.”
“Also, by bringing together several of our
company’s key functions in one location we’ve increased efficiency and
streamlined many of our processes,” he continued. “This helps us better serve
our commitment to customers by providing reliable, affordable power and
preparing for future needs.”
The 53,000-square-foot Data Center houses
approximately 20 employees, most of whom work for SAIC, Entergy’s technology
services provider.
“The reliability of the whole Entergy operation depends heavily on the
reliability of its data centers—they serve a very important function for the
company and for customers,” Fisackerly said.
Entergy also has a data center in Little Rock,
Ark. The two centers share common functions and system redundancies to ensure
uninterrupted operations and data protection.
Entergy officially opened its transmission
headquarters on the Echelon campus last December. That building represents a
$25-million investment by the company.
Entergy’s nuclear headquarters, also located on
the campus, was built in 1989 and represents a total investment of approximately
$13 million. The headquarters and its employees support the 11 nuclear power
plants the company owns throughout the South, Northeast and in Michigan, as well
as provide services to an additional plant in Nebraska.
Entergy’s Power House, a professional development
center for the company’s employees with lodging, dining, meeting and study
space, was completed in 1994 at a cost of about $10 million. In addition, it
serves as Entergy’s restoration command center during storms.
Entergy Mississippi, Inc. provides electricity to
more than 435,000 customers in 45 counties. It is a subsidiary of Entergy
Corporation. Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged
primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations.
Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of
electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in
the United States. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers
in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
