Legislative Report
No deal on Medicaid;
Metal Theft bill becomes law
The off again, on again summer special session came to an end
Aug. 4, as Legislators failed to find common ground on Medicaid funding.
One measure that was passed in special session has become law,
as metal scrap dealers must now register with the Secretary of State's office.
The Metal Theft Investigation System collects records from
scrapyard transactions and instantly delivers information law enforcement
officers need to solve metal theft cases. The system should help reduce the
number of metal thefts; save time and money spent fixing damage;
and see a rise in conviction rates for these
crimes.
